Continuing Professional Development for Teachers

Science & Humanities supplies continuing professional development for teachers through the national network of Science Learning Centres and to schools, school clusters and LEAs directly. Courses can be developed to meet most needs, but typical examples include:

Action Science – for G&T

This one day course is directed at teachers, often NQTs, with little experience of dealing with mixed ability classes containing G&T students, or specialist groups of G&T students. It includes information about the national programme some ideas about developing specially stretching programmes and several examples of potential experiments and projects.

Science on a shoestring (for primary teachers)

The ideas for activities contained within Science on a Shoestring will be of interest to most primary teachers who take science as well as those concerned with G&T groups. Following a brief introduction the day comprises the opportunity to try a number of experiments including, Measuring the slimness of snot, Measuring the stickiness of earwax, Leonardo’s cannon, Measuring the thickness of a bubble film, Classification and Fizzy chocolate. The scientific principles behind every experiment are explained.

Experience Counts

Groups of students with their teachers from a number of local schools are invited to do two experiments, one ion the morning and one after lunch. In the afternoon the teachers change groups and so work with an unfamiliar team.

Exciting, fun, practical story based courses, problems to be solved.

"Messy and hands on"

"My students have always loved how interactive and wonderfully "messy and hands on" they can get on these days."
